Is your 2010 Your Year to Lose Weight?

Is your 2010 Your Year to Lose Weight?

This is a good question; is 2010 going to be the year that you lose weight? For many, this is going to the one of the New Year’s Resolutions. Unfortunately, there are people who had this same resolution last year and this year they will be making the same resolution yet again because they did not realize their much-desired goals of losing weight in 2008 as they had resolved. They are not alone. Over 40%PRCTG% of the US population struggles with obesity in one form or another and there are about half a million deaths in the US alone attributed to being overweight. This makes no mention of the hundreds of billions of dollars a year that is lost due to medical costs caused by employees who cannot work because of obesity-related illnesses. But in the recent decades, more people are waking up to the realization that obesity is a problem and have started taking whatever steps are necessary to correct this and get a great lean body starting in 2010. First of all, let us examine why people become obese.

In countries such as the United States, many working people are under tremendous pressure at work, at school and at their homes. This accumulated pressure means people do not have time to watch their diets or even to exercise. A direct result of this situation is to eat out more and that is why fast food restaurants have mushroomed at such an alarming rate. We can practically see fast foods at almost every corner and their mission is to feed the millions who are too busy to go grocery shopping or to cook. While fast food restaurants have vowed to use less trans-fat in their food preparation, and have also been mandated by the government, they nevertheless continue to churn very high calorie diets. It is almost astonishing to learn that some single meals served at fast food joints have enough calories to equal an entire day’s requirement. Then take this figure and consider the fact that many people eat three times a day at fast food restaurants!

Then a lot of people as we have mentioned, do not have time to exercise. This is because of the limitations of time and family. But if these same people are to rid themselves of excess weight, they have to adapt more or less a new mindset. They have to change the way they live.

It may not be easy to shed excess weight and we are not going to pretend that it can take a month or two to get there. But it is not impossible. One of the must dos is to get education. Before you can lose weight, you must first get as much information as possible about nutrition. You must understand which food has more calories and which one are healthy to eat. Then one has to develop an exercise routine and stick with it. All these things require discipline and commitment.

Tips on losing weight

Tips on losing weight

Being overweight has its inherent dangers and can even result in death. Ask the 300,000 to 400,000 people who die each year in the United States due to weight-related complications across the board. Weight gain, which is also known as obesity, is defined as having a BMI or body mass index of 25-59. Body mass index is calculated by dividing weight with height and then squaring the answer. Many people have realized the dangers of having a BMI that is above the recommended figure. Overweight people suffer from low self-esteem, lack of sleep or sleeping disorders, chronic fatigue and even a higher risk of heart attacks and strokes. Obesity also depresses the body’s immune system thereby making it susceptible to a malady of ailments from the common cold to the full blown flu.

There are however, ways to beat weight gain. One of them is to educate you regarding nutrition. It is surprising to note just how many people cook food or eat food without the slightest regard to what is contained in those foods or how many calories are therein. This is common. But it can change. Whenever you buy food at the grocery store, read the label and see what ingredients and locked up in the food and how many calories are there. Also search online for weight loss forums where people are discussing nutrition issues and you will get a treasure drove of information on how to eat right and become healthier.

The Internet also affords you information on the right recipes and how to eat the foods that have the right nutrition mix. The food pyramid website managed by the USFDA has a ton of information regarding proper nutrition and should be in everyone’s arsenal in the battle to lose weight. Exercise is off course another great way.

New Years resolutions for 2010-weight loss

March 13th, 2010

New Years resolutions for 2010-weight loss

Obesity is one of the highest causes of death in the United States with over 400,000 people dying each year because of it. There are also millions more that are affected by being overweight to the extent that their lives are also in danger. In fact, obesity means a condition where the body fat accumulates to such an extent as to become a health hazard. Medicare for obesity-related costs is also escalating. Thanks to media reports and the fact that people are now becoming more aware of the health risks of being obese, many people who are overweight are now taking steps to become leaner and this is high on the agenda of many when it comes to their New Year’s resolution. But before examine these resolutions; let us see what causes obesity.

One of the main reasons for becoming obese is lack of diligence and vigilance when it comes to diet. Today’s foods, especially fast foods are deep fried and even though many fast food restaurants have adapted cooking fats that have less trans fats, these foods still contain a high dosage of fat and calories and have been a major culprit in the rise in people’s cholesterol levels.

Fast food restaurants are almost everywhere nowadays and they cater to a society that is so pressed for time that they do not have enough time to prepare their own meals. A typical fast food meal has over 1000 calories and some even contain the entire daily calorie intake requirement in one meal!

Living a life of fast food restaurants and lack of exercise (all because they do not have enough time) is the major cause of obesity. Then there are people whose genetic makeup does not allow for enough fat to be burnt. Take this and combine it with the fact that many people prefer to drive even for ridiculously short distances and you have a obesity.

But many have become determined to rid themselves of excess weight in 2010 and have made that their New Year’s resolution. There are few steps one can take to ensure that this resolution becomes a reality.

One way is to determine to exercise. One need not even join a gym. They can simply start at home with simple push ups. Swimming also helps immensely if one has a pool/ Walking and running around their compound or neighborhood helps a whole lot. If you have some extra money to spare you can hire a personal trainer who will personally oversee your weight loss.

Another strategy is to observe one’s diet and to determine to eat smart. This means watching the calories that are in everything you buy at the store. The food pyramid website maintained by the USFDA is an excellent place to start if you want to know what diets contain what nutrients.

Being wise regarding what one eats requires discipline and this is obtained by habit. It may not be easy at first but it eventually is if one sticks to the diet.

Losing weight withot starving yourself

March 12th, 2010

Losing weight withot starving yourself

There are many ways to lose weight without drastically cutting down on diet. Many people who are overweight get discouraged when they hear that they have to cut down on their food intake but this is not necessarily true. One can lose a sizeable amount of weight and still be eating some of their favorite foods. This is not entirely difficult especially knowing that there are many that are doing that. Let us examine one way one can achieve this.

One way of losing weight without starving themselves is to get as much education as possible. This means going to the Internet and reading as much information as possible on ways in which one can lose weight all while maintaining many of their eating habits. There are weight loss forums which provide a wealth of information to someone looking on how to inject some wisdom into their diet plan. These forums are full of opinions and practical ideals from people who have triumphed over weight gain and this information is invaluable. What makes forums so potent when it comes to the battle against weight gain is that they are interactive. Once you sign up you can easily begin to post opinions of your own and even ask questions.

Another way to lose weight without necessarily starving yourself is to get on an expert diet. A quick search of the Internet reveals that there are many diets, some cheap and some costly that you can get into. The Atkins Diet for instance, allows you to continue eating much of the same quantities of food you were eating before but you eliminate most of the culprits of weight gain such as fats and carbohydrates. Reading the labels when shopping also ensures that you buy only that which has low fat and low cabs. This is what is called wise dieting.

How to lose your belly in 2010

March 11th, 2010

How to lose your belly in 2010

Excess belly fat is almost always a byproduct of being overweight since it is very rare to see someone with a belly fat problem that does not also struggle with obesity. Obesity has become one of the deadliest plagues of the 12st century and countries such as the US and the UK have an obesity rate of almost 40%PRCTG%. This translates to hundreds of millions of dollars a year in lost productivity to the economy and hundreds of millions f dollars more in medical costs emanating from obesity-related conditions.

Obesity is a medical term given to a condition where the body accumulates fat to the extent that it becomes a health risk. There are many ways that people accumulate excess fat and thereby belly fat. One of the main reasons for belly fat accumulation is indulging in high calorie diets with the emphasis on fast foods. Fast foods have become very common in the United States because many people do not have time to shop for groceries and prepare their own meals. This is essentially because the socio-economic structure demands a lot in terms of time from the people and when they arrive home, they are too tired to cook. The easier alternative is to frequent a fast food restaurant buy some take-away.

Most of the fast food restaurants fry their food and while they have made an attempt not to use trans- fats, they nevertheless use grease that causes the food to have extremely high calorie and cholesterol levels. Some meals can have up to 3000 calories in one serving which is the entire daily calorie requirement according to the USFDA food pyramid website.

Another reason why people accumulate fat in the belly is because of lack of exercise. When one indulges in high calorie diets and does not engage in corresponding exercises to burn the subsequent fat, then belly fat accumulation is almost always inevitable. There are also those who have genetic issues that cause their bodies to accumulate more fat than is necessary and if these same people are not watchful of their diet and do not exercise adequately then obesity is logical next step. But for many, 2010 is a year where they have determined to lose belly fat and there are certain ways they can do this.

One of the ways is to exercise more. The fast step is to refuse to drive for short distances. The culture of driving even small distances has to stop and people have to learn to walk to the store if that store is located a few blocks from their house. Exercises such as running and walking around their neighborhood can also help immensely. One need not join a gym and spend money. There are also many sports stores that sell exercise machines. Visit these stores and see what exercise machines are necessary to lose belly fat. Another way to lose belly fat is to watch one’s diet and make sure that the food one buys has the right calorie count.

Reducing excess weight

March 11th, 2010

Reducing excess weight

Obesity causes over 300,000 deaths in the United States each year. This staggering number has resulted in a flurry of activity to tackle obesity even in schools. The problem is so acute especially in the United States that some schools have began offering vegetarian diets and the students in those schools are not complaining whatsoever. Many gyms and fitness houses are also seeing an increase in enrollments as people become more informed as to the inherent dangers of obesity. Obesity is defined as a condition where excess body fat accumulates in the body to the extent that it affects one’s overall body health. Body fat is also measured by checking what is called the BMI or body mass index which is one’s weight divided by the height squared. A BMI of 25-30kg/m is considered overweight at that point the person is advices to take some measures to bring it down. So what measures can be taken to induce weight loss?

One is exercise. As we mentioned, body mass or excess fat is arrived at when fat is accumulated in the body. Fat in itself is not bad because it cushions the body and contributes to healthy body heat. But excess fat builds up when more fat builds up than the body can burn or is metabolizing. It therefore goes without saying that to accelerate the burning of excess fat, one has to increase their level of activity in order to burn more fat.

Another way to tackle weight loss is to watch one’s diet. That is where a diet program comes in. But before one embarks on a diet plan, it is considered prudent to shop smart whenever one goes for shopping. Reading the labels determine the calorie level in the can or container is considered wise. More and more people are doing this.

Vitamins: The Keys to Your Body’s Health

February 26th, 2010

Everyone remembers to talk about protein and the difference between good fats and bad fats, but as these topics are discussed more and more, many people amazingly forget about the most important and basic parts of the equation: vitamins.  Getting the appropriate amount of vitamins in your diet as you try to lose weight or gain muscle, or both, is absolutely essential for success at any of your body sculpting goals.  This article will help explain why some good multi-vitamins should be one of the cornerstones of your dietary and workout plan.

Vitamins aid in every part of the body.  They work to make the body work properly, boost the immune system, and to keep you in overall good health.  In addition, these vitamins are all needed to work, grow, and a whole list of other very important functions.  So while all this talk about good carbs vs. bad carbs, good fats vs. bad fats, and proteins is going on (and these are all very important topics by anyone going on a diet or bodybuilding – I’m not bashing these topics), let’s not forget about the all encompassing importance of vitamins.  Without them, the rest isn’t nearly as important.  It is impossible to be in good health with a vitamin deficiency.

Everybody needs vitamins.  In fact, diseases like scurvy prove how important vitamins are.  If you don’t bother to eat any vitamin C for weeks and months on end, then you’ll get sick and even possibly die.  That’s how important vitamins are.  They’re essential to living – much less being in optimal health and having an exceptional diet and bodybuilding plan.

Vitamins are the “jack of all trade” as far as what they do for the body.  Vitamins interact positively with a body and help keep you protected from disease, strengthen your immune system, keeps your body functioning at optimum capacity, and even affects your emotional moods!  Malnutrition = terrible emotional moods, good nutrition = better moods.

Vitamins do so many things.  If you cut yourself, it takes vitamins to clot the blood.  If you’re sick, then your body needs more than the average amount of vitamins to fight the virus.  People who take multi-vitamins often recover quickly from even the nastiest of flu viruses while others who don’t have the proper nutrition struggle and may stay sick longer.  Certain vitamins are directly responsible for converting food into energy, and some other vitamins even work as “enablers” to help the body fully process proteins and calcium.

If you’ve done your research, you know about supplements, protein, and good fats, but don’t lose the forest in the trees!  A good multi-vitamin is a great way to keep all the vitamins your body needs, and while there are many different types of vitamins, why take eight pills, each based on one vitamin, when you can take one good multi-vitamin to take care of it all?  It’s just common sense to take the one, and to cover every single vitamin that your body needs to run at full steam ahead!

Weight Lifting Routines- Sticking to them

February 25th, 2010

Most people who only diet to lose weight always end up gaining more weight eventually. Any weight loss program is incomplete without exercises. What really brings about long-term results is the combination of a balanced, proper diet with cardio exercises and weight lifting. When it comes to weight lifting you will find a lot of information that contradict each other and choosing the right one may be a little for you. This is where we come in, briefing you on the importance of weight lifting routines in weight loss programs.

The Basic thing about Weight Lifting:

You must understand, right at the very beginning, if you are in a hurry to lose weight, there is not much that weight lifting can do for you. Previously it was thought that muscles burn more calories when compared to fat, but recent studies have shown that difference is hardly noticeable.

The Nuances of Weight Lifting:

1. Including weight lifting routines is one of the most effective ways of bringing about a complete change to your overall lifestyle. The thing that really works in losing weight is to burn fat and build lean muscles. Without doing anything, body muscles keep burning fat throughout the day. You can lose extra fat of at least one pound every week by just developing around 10 pounds of muscle.

2. Contradicting the common belief that lifting heavier weights helps one gain mass and lifting lighter ones help one slim down, it is most beneficial to lift heavy weights that will let you do 8 to 10 repetitions. There really is no point in lifting lightweights and doing high number of reps. They are not as intensive as aerobics and ultimately does not help in gaining muscle.

3. Most women avoid lifting heavy weights for fear of getting to muscular. But this does no qualify for all women. In fact women do not produce enough testosterone to be able to build big muscles.

4. Target at all the important muscle groups during your weight lifting routines. Most people tend to skip working out he lower body. These are more strenuous to do and at times appear unnatural. But hat is bound to happen if you only use your legs to either walk or do occasional lifting of lightweights. Also, some people get a sore foot after a complete lower body workout and thus refrain from it. But the trick is not to give up. Our bodies are built to adapt and after working out for a few days, you shall hardly notice the pain. Just remember, the soreness is only because your body is new to such kind of workouts, not because of lactic acid as is common belief. The lower part of our body happens to house large muscles and they can help burn calories when they grow.

5. Weight lifting is something that you have to carry on throughout. Simply sticking to weight lifting routines just for a few weeks, or a couple of months or even a year is not going to help.

Sticking to weight lifting routines bring about a complete change to the body. If you can lift weights along with a good diet and other forms of exercise, you are rest assured your body will remain fit throughout your life.

Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe

February 23rd, 2010

Finding a good cabbage soup diet recipe is not difficult, and for many people the cabbage soup diet is a great quick diet to lose weight quickly and can be used to bust through annoying plateaus that often sabotage dieters by breaking their will when nothing seems to change over a long period of time.  The cabbage soup diet focuses on the concept of negative calorie foods, as well as timed cycling of foods, detox, and timed “withholding” and then “satiation” of different foods for your body.  For many, this means that in one week the cabbage soup diet can have an amazing effect.

The most important part of this diet is obviously the cabbage soup diet recipe.  The cabbage soup is the only thing you’re allowed to eat on every single day, as well as an unlimited amount.  Each day of the cabbage soup diet has very specific rules on what you can and can not eat, but the one constant is that you are supposed to eat at least one bowl of cabbage soup every single day, and you can eat as much soup as you want.

It’s easy to get sick of a mediocre cabbage soup recipe early, and the more tasty this soup, the better the diet is going to work.  While the base recipe of the cabbage soup in the cabbage soup diet is the same, there are some nice touches you can add to make the soup more flavorful.  This is seriously important after multiple days of eating the same soup over and over again.

This recipe is one of my favorites for the cabbage soup diet, and adds some great flavor to the base recipe.

Ingredients:
•    6 large green onions
•    2 green bell peppers (or hot peppers if you like it spicy)
•    5 carrots
•    2 packages of fresh mushrooms
•    2 bunches of celery
•    1 head of cabbage
•    1 package Lipton soup mix OR equivalent soup mix/broth flavoring
•    48 oz bottle of V8 juice
•    Tomatoes (optional)
•    2 bouillon cubes
•    (optional) zucchini
•    Seasonings: Lemon pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, garlic salt, salt, parsley, curry, oregano flakes, white pepper (and anything else you prefer not listed)

Slice the green onions, and sauté them with cooking spray.  Cut the green pepper as you would for any meal, taking out seeds and membrane, slice to small bite sized bits and then add them to the green onions.  Slice up the cabbage into edible bite sized pieces and add them to the pot, as well.  Clean and add the carrots, mushrooms (keep the mushrooms thick – trust me on this one) and if you like the soup spicy, add your spices now.

Now add the water, V-8, and soup mix.  I usually go about 7 cups of water and the entire bottle of V-8.  Add beef or chicken bouillon cubes for flavoring.  Don’t be shy in adding lemon pepper, garlic power, or other spices to keep the broth tasting fantastic.  This should make a good batch that should tide over even the hungriest individual for a couple days, and when you re-heat the soup, don’t be afraid to add more seasoning, as well.

And there you go.  A delicious and filling cabbage soup that will help you lose weight, and keep you feeling happy and full.

Workout Routines for Women

February 11th, 2010

There are a number of different things that can be done which will help women to achieve their overall fitness goals, provided they are willing to stick with the program.  Here are several different workout routines for women that can help them accomplish anything that they are trying to accomplish, from weight loss to building muscle.

The first thing that you need to understand is that although it is possible for you to adapt a workout routine from a man’s perspective into your own workout routine, that is not always going to be the best way for you to do it.  Women have different chemical makeups and their bodies are going to respond differently to various workout routines than would a man.  Here are some specific workout routines for women that are designed for women and will do the most good for you.

The Fat Burning Routine

Although there are numerous ways for you to work out, one of the most effective ways for you to burn fat is to make sure that you are working in intervals.  Interval training can not only boost your metabolism while you are doing the training, it can also keep it running at full speed for the entire day.  It can be adapted into any type of cardiovascular or muscle building exercise, it just takes a little bit more effort in order to do it.

The basic way that an interval training workout is done is for you to go at 100% for a period of time and then to back off and take it easy for a similar amount of time.  Most often, this is done in a sixty second on and sixty second off time frames.  As you continue to get stronger and your abilities to grow along with it, you can adapt these times in order to make it a little bit more difficult to you.  This is one of the most awesome workout routines for women and they can help you to lose weight very quickly.

Weightlifting Routine

Of all of the different workout routines for women that are available, this is the one that is going to help you to look the best while you are burning fat.  Most women tend to overlook the lifting because they feel that they are going to bulk up if they do so.  Although it is possible for a woman to gain muscle, the fact of the matter is that they have to work so hard on it in many cases that they are never going to get to that point.  A little bit of lean muscle mass on a woman’s body is going to help her to look shapely and sexy.

Muscle on a woman is also going to have another effect and that is why it makes it one of the best workout routines for women in order to burn fat.  Every pound of muscle that you have on your body is going to burn 60 calories every day, day in and day out.  That is why it is recommended that you work the larger muscles of your body, the legs, and add anywhere from five to 10 pounds of lean muscle mass.  Don’t worry about what the scale says, know that you are losing a pound of body fat every week without making any other changes.

Tabata Workouts

This is one of the most advanced workout routines for women, although it can really be done by either a woman or a man.  This is going to take a lot of effort on your part, but the end result is going to be excellent if you’re able to do the workout.  The best part about this is the fact that it only takes four minutes of effort every day and it will boost your metabolism faster and for longer than any other type of workout available.

Tabata workouts are rigidly timed and you need to make sure that you’re pushing yourself to your absolute limit in order for them to work properly.  The way that it is done is that you go for 20 seconds at your absolute maximum effort.  It doesn’t matter what kind of exercise you are doing, squats, burpees, mountain climbers or any other type of exercise but you must do it at 100%.  After the 20 seconds are over, you will rest completely for 10 seconds before starting the process again.  Continue doing this for four minutes and if you’re able to keep up with it, you will burn fat quickly for the rest of the day.

The Importance of Eating Right

Along with any workout routines for women, you need to make sure that you are eating the proper types of foods and that you are not over eating.  It doesn’t matter how much you exercise, if you are taking more calories into your body on a daily basis than what you are using, the additional calories are going to be stored as fat.  That is a simple fact, and it is one that you must remember.

Fortunately, if you’re doing any of these workout routines for women, you will be able to eat a little bit more normally than if you were not working out.  Even so, you need to keep your diet as clean and healthy as possible and you will begin to notice differences in the way that you look and the amount of weight that you are losing.

A Final Word

We can go on and describe to you dozens of other workout routines for women but the most important thing is the fact that you get into the gym and do these workouts regularly.  Unless you are persistent with your efforts, you are never going to achieve your final goals.

Whether you’re trying to lose weight or if you are trying to just get healthier overall, these routines can help you to reach out and take hold of that goal.  Continue to stick with your plan and you will notice differences that will stick with you for the rest of your life.
