Healthy and Delicious Summer Picnic Recipes

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

The summertime is a fantastic time of year to get together with family and friends and enjoy a meal.  There are a number of great Summer picnic recipes that are available, some of which are old classics and others that you may never thought about before.  Since this is going to be one of the activities that will make for a fantastic outing, you will want to make sure that you choose a recipe that is going to be absolutely perfect for the occasion.  Here are a few ideas for you to choose from.

The unfortunate thing about many of the Summer picnic recipes that are available is the fact that they are not necessarily going to be the most nutritious foods that you are going to be able to eat.  Many times, these summer picnics are going to include barbecues or perhaps some other form of meat which is served chilled.  I know that when I was growing up, one of the most popular Summer picnic recipes that was served at any gathering was cold chicken and potato salad.  Although this is a delicious combination, it is not necessarily going to help you if you’re trying to watch your waistline.

That is why I always recommend that no matter what recipe you choose, you always make sure to have plenty of healthy things that are available along with it.  Not everybody is going to take advantage of these food items, but there are going to be quite a few people who will appreciate the fact that they are available.  You can start out with a nice salad and have additional fruits and vegetables available.  You might also enjoy trying making one of the raw food dishes that are so popular, and there certainly is no doubt about the health benefits that come from them.

Of course, you should keep in mind that not everybody is going to want to eat as healthy as you are and many people would really appreciate the fact that you bring out some of the older Summer picnic recipes that are not necessarily as good for you.  Many people enjoy these types of foods and even though they may take good care of themselves for the most part, they will allow themselves to eat these foods on occasion because nostalgic feeling that they can provide.  As long as you have all of these bases covered, whatever you make for the Summer picnic should be a hit.

One final thing that you should concern yourself with is the fact that if you’re going to be out of doors for a long period of time, any of these Summer picnic recipes should receive the proper amount of chilling in some form or another.  Perhaps it would be best if you kept almost anything that you made on ice, particularly if you’re going to be picnicking somewhere that is far away from home.  In doing so, you will not only ensure yourself of a great meal, you will keep yourself from any type of sickness that would come from the food spoiling.

Delicious Low Calorie Summer Recipes

Monday, January 4th, 2010

The summer is the time of year whenever people tend to get together more often than any other.  Because you will be eating with your friends and family, you might be interested in some low calorie Summer recipes that are available.  These recipes are not only delicious, they are also very good for you and they can help to keep you from feeling quite so guilty from having a good time.  They may also be able to help you to save a little bit of calorie room for some of the better stuff that comes later on, the desert.

Some of the most popular ways of eating in the summer time revolve around the barbecue.  Barbecued food is notoriously bad for you but it does not necessarily need to be that way.  As a matter of fact, there are some low calorie Summer recipes for the barbecue that are actually quite delicious.  It really has to do with the base that you use whenever you’re cooking the food as you do not necessarily need to use a fatty piece of red meat in order to have something good.  As a matter of fact, some lean meats, such as fish or chicken make excellent choices for the grill.

Something that you may want to keep in mind whenever barbecuing, however, is the marinades that are typically used or the coatings that are put on whenever it is on the grill are where most of your calories come from.  Low calorie Summer recipes that use the barbecue would necessitate that you are rather light on using these extra items.  At times, you can allow the flavor of the food to come through even better if you use some light seasoning, such as Mrs. Dash.  There are a lot of other options that are available which are considered low calorie, yet delicious.

If you are not necessarily getting together for a larger meal, there are some low calorie Summer recipes that you may want to try just to help pass the time.  Many of these involve raw fruits and vegetables, some of the healthiest food that you can eat.  Personally, I enjoy preparing raw food into specialty dishes and serving it.  Not only do people find it refreshing but it is one of those low calorie Summer recipes that is quite a conversation piece.  If you are not necessarily into the preparation of food, you might simply try throwing some grapes in the freezer as these are a nutritious and delicious treat whenever the weather is hot outside.

Many of the low calorie Summer recipes that you find are going to be light foods.  This is an excellent choice for whenever the weather is hot or perhaps it is humid outside.  By not weighing yourself down with heavy foods, you will be in a better position to enjoy the company while they are visiting.  You will also not have to regret the fact that you ate three times the amount of calories that you should have during that time.
